A quick (fan-fiction) outline on why Amidala, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan are disliked by Palpatine. These events take place prior to Episode I.
- Palpatine has money and tells Amidala he wants a birthday cake specific to his vision.
- Amidala hires Qui-Gon Jinn to create the birthday cake.
- Qui-Gon gives Obi-Wan Kenobi the decorations for the cake.
- Obi-Wan works on the decorations. Qui-Gon bakes the cake.
- Obi-Wan notices some decorations were missing and creates new decorations to fill in the missing spots. This situation is not uncommon and has been done on many other birthday cakes before, with satisfied customers.
- Obi-Wan turns decorations in to Qui-Gon.
- Qui-Gon approves.
- Qui-Gon turns in birthday cake to Amidala.
- Amidala thinks cake looks great.
- Amidala turns in cake to Palpatine.
- Palpatine says cake is "made up" and "amateurish" and blames everyone.
Obi-Wan only worked on the decorations Qui-Gon gave him. Turns out Qui-Gon knew about a lot more decorations that were created by a missing Jedi Master named Sifo-Dyas, who was an expert on Palpatine's cake. Obi-Wan assumed that the decorations he was given were complete. Qui-Gon did not notice anything was missing. Obi-Wan should not have assumed everything was complete or filled in the missing decorations. Sifo-Dyas, the expert in the project, was never around to review Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's work. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan should've made sure everything is complete by tracking down Sifo-Dyas. And now Palpatine will bad-mouth Amidala, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan to the Galactic Senate and the Jedi Council, lowering Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's potential for baking future cakes.
