DC Day 5: A Day Late, and a Dollar Short

[I'm writing about this day 8 days later because internet at the hotel was getting expensive.]

A day late and a dollar short. That means we were ill-prepared for this day. Here's a list of the day's wins and fails:
  • As we leave the National Cathedral (after spending a lot of time there), the tour guide tells us that there is this very interesting grotesque on the northwest tower of the cathedral. (And here is a Flickr search for even more pictures of that grotesque.) I never get to see it. FAIL!

  • As we arrive at the downtown bus stop where the trolleys converge, they tell us that the Michelle Obama wax figure premiered that day. We deliberated over whether we would go to Tussaud's again after deliberating over what to eat for lunch. During the euphoria of an awesome meal at McCormick & Schmick's, we decided to go. WIN!

  • The tour guide also mentioned that a really great view of DC can be seen from the top of the Old Post Office building. After seeing wax figures a second time, we headed straight there. We arrived at 4:45 pm. They told us that the post office closes at 4:45 pm. FAIL!

  • We were told that for that day, the Smithsonian museums would stay open till 7:30 pm. The plan was to see the Kermit muppet and Dorothy's shoes at the American History museum. It was around 5 pm, so we decided to see dinosaurs at the Natural History museum. When we got to the American History museum, the security told us it was closed at 5:30 for a private event. FAIL!

  • There was a Predator-cam at the Air and Space Museum. At least that place stayed open till 7:30. WIN!
